Saturday Open Thread: Worst Architecture In Cape town

Where have you seen the worst architecture in Cape Town? In my eyes the reigning champ is still this monstrosity we wrote about back in August 2008:

In terms of an entire suburb, Sunset Beach is just choc-a-bloc full of massive boxes seemingly designed by builders sticking plans of rooms together like Lego. Parklands may be soulless and boring but Sunset Beach is an assault on your eyeballs.

as I posted already, Stonehurst alias Guantanamo bay. I can hardly imagine anything more ugly!

Totally agree about Stonehurst. And the price of those townhouses is very high for what they are, just small boxes.

The building in the picture does have one big plus: security.
Once you lock up that front door you can sleep securely in the knowledge that you're safe from anyone climbing through the windows... unless house invaders are members of some hardcore technical climbing club... or spiderman.
I have serious problems with the security aspects of most suburban and town houses. The traditional open plan, lots of windows, patio door type of thinking is out of step with the realities of our times and hard to secure.
The violent crime situation seems to have become a permanent state of affairs and it might be a smart move to accept it and design our homes accordingly.
Secure architecture might be ugly, but it's better than waking up in the night and finding a guy with a knife standing next to your bed.
Think feudal people. Every man's home is his castle/blockhouse/fortified golf estate.
