I've always lived in apartments. Maybe it's because I grew up in a house with a large garden, pool and tennis court and saw first hand what a waste all the staff and maintenance are. It was so much added stress for my parents to deal with all that upkeep and the neverending issues with dishonest staff members stealing things and being absent and/or useless.
Less is more.
I would feel different if I had children but for me, lock up and go is the way to go. And it feels safer.
Here's your answer, CT Bubble: one serious answer, two jokes. Apartment living, with all its innumerable advantages over rattling around in a free-standing McPrison, is simply not on South Africans' radar.
You are not safe anywhere like "lockup and go" until you make your own safety. I have lived in secured estates and they all had robberies despite having high walls, guards etc.... So for the past 5 years i live in a large house with high walls and electric fencing , garden beams and interior alarm. My neigbours do the same and no one has had any burglary. So do not waste your money paying for expensive secured estates with high maintenance fees etc....

Good help is so hard to find these days...
Haven't seen Top Billing do any hot apartments recently ... so that must be a big NAY! ;)
