It's the Saturday open thread. This week's topic: What's happening in other cities? We're CT focused but if you're a reader in Jozi/Durbs/Bloom/PE let us know what's up!

These are non-scientific comments of a lay observer.
I dunno what's with the people of Durban. Their prices are at least 2, 3..10x that of Jo'burg. Even the rent's higher. Must be all that salt water corroding their brains. They keep harping on about sea views.
Case in point: 1 bedroom apartment - Umhlanga Asking: R2.6m Levies: R3500.00 http://www.privateproperty.co.za/pearl-breeze-umhlanga-f9804.htm
Gateway is the worst. Pokey chubby holes, all the noise from the mall and its upstarts.
Floor Area: 55m2 (how do you fit 2 beds + a bath in there?) Asking: R1.1m Levies: R1511
2009 and early 2010 did see a slight easing of prices but as the SARB kept dropping the rates, prices went back up. I've noticed that some places have been in and out of the ads but the prices aren't dropping much.
Must be people who bought at the height of the boom. Been here 3 years and still can't bear the thought of forking out so much.
As an aside, I have property bought in Jo'burg 2001. 'Twas for 120k, 2 beds, 100 sq m, LUG etc now selling for 675k. Like my flat I may, I will not buy it now if a gun were held to my head. At least, the rent I get pays off the bond plus majority of the rent I have to pay in Durban.

2 Bedroom apartment in Umhlanga Rocks. Asking...drum roll please...R60m. Yup, that's right! sixty million. That's R30m per bedroom. Or, is it R10m per bedroom and R40m for the sea view?

My final comment, I promise.
Here's a bargain for those who can't resist:

Oops apologies folks. 6m I meant to say...evidently still feeling the effects of Phuza Thurday or the salty sea air or ... :)
my family still live in DBN and compared to JHB and CT its the most overpriced...not to mention that DBN crimewise is the wild west.
